Graphite Rose

Brrr tonight we found out the difference between cold and freezing.  I had a lay down after tea which I don’t normally do,  but was quite cold and thought it a good way to get warm under the covers. Just when I woke up I plugged the heater in and  damn every thing went off in the van.  It was freezing so thought would stay under the doona to get a bit warmer but it just doesn’t work that way really when its that cold.  After about 5 minutes of trying to work up the courage to go down to my connection  I stupidly realised there’s only one way to get warm again and thats to brave the outside, anyone would think it was snowing and ice out there hey?  Not really, not too far off the ice though. Its forecast 4-5 tonight but feels a lot colder than that already.  I’ve now got the heater on and a cup of tea,  and its a lot warmer.

The little rose above is done in graphite,  I actually got some water colours out last night and played around with them for awhile,  just on some sketch paper,  felt great just mixing and dropping the paint in for different techniques to try. I rarely end up with anything I’d call a painting though with watercolours,  definately not my best medium to work with, but I enjoy the different effects and things you can do with it,  would be great if they ended up worth looking at though, haha.

  1. I really like how this rose takes over the whole page and runs off the sides and the bottom. You are unbelievable to brave all the things you have and continue to be inspired to create. Keep working with the watercolors. I believe you will find a way to use them!

    • Hi Leslie, was thinking earlier am so lucky I don’t live in Alaska or somewhere like, some places they don’t even see daylight through the long cold winters, we don’t even know what winter is here compared to them really. But got to say envy them their indoor loo’s. The watercolours I’ll continue to play around with, continue getting knowledge from other artists and sites, like yourself, and just enjoy them til something clicks with them.

  2. I’m not a particularly good watercolourist myself. So i know how you feel.
But it is fun to work with sometimes.
I’d still like to see yours.
I really like this rose too.
What a wonderful gift to give me. lol

    • Hi and lovely to see you at my blog, yeah with the watercolour I just keep hoping I’ll have one of those “lucky mistakes” and turn out a masterpiece, still waiting though. I actually did a magic one one time, But didn’t know it til it came time to throw the wipe down paper away, I couldn’t believe how beautiful the pattern I had made from just wiping the excess paint out of my brush each time was. If only the paper had not been torn etc around the edges, it was unreal. What happens when we don’t even know about it.
