The One That Got Away.

I found this photo on my computer today, was pretty disappointed though, this is one I started back at the house and had to leave there. Its unfinished as you can see, but I was really liking how it was coming along. Its done in soft pastels on that paper thats like sandpaper, have to watch out for your finger tips on that one though.   I do like it and maybe when I get some more of the same paper I might do it again and get to finish it.

Gloves, yes, I have to invest in a pair, the last couple of nights its even been too cold to sit at the computer, even though the heaters only 3 feet away. Your hands just freeze up. We’ve had a cold snap, the night before last I’ve never seen so much ice on a car in Australia ever, not just a smear of it but quite thick,  I didn’t believe it could get that cold. Even with two sleeping bags on me and my coat I froze all night, and sleep just wasn’t happening very much at all. I was worried my dog would turn and toss his blankets off and lay there shivering, which he did, the silly bugger. But it was just the fact I was shivering all night myself that kept me awake. I didn’t feel sorry at all for those in Alaska that night it was too much like it.

I fell in love with the beauty of this little town when I drove through, I didn’t know at the time we were right next to the coldest place in the state.  It also didn’t help when I realised the caravan vent up the top is open and won’t close, haha, no wonder the heater was so inefficient. The above little one in blue and white is an aceo,  miniature, it was an excercise I was doing last night from a watercolour book.  Trying  dry brushing, for the shade on the snow.  The trees in the background are supposed to look like that for effects, but think my effects could look lots better. I love watercolour, find it a lot of fun, you never know what your going to get when starting off with it, well I never do, makes it kind of interesting.  I did this on the caravan floor in really low light half way under the table, wasn’t any room any where else, so didn’t know what it looked like til this morning actually, it was too “B” cold to leave the heater and sit at the table, haha.  Now know when they say “drybrushing” it must mean really dry brush, shall ask “lesliepaints.”  Wow can that lady paint.  Anyway, have decided to buy some gloves, the ones with the fingers chopped out.  Stuffed a jumper of mine around the top vent and has it made a difference already.

Wasn’t going to put any watercolours on as usually just tear them up when finished them, but kseverny asked so that ones for you.  And will put more of them on when I do them.

Abstracts Graphite and Camera Shy Dogs.

Mmm I’m sitting here with a hot coffee, heater on, dog curled up at the end of the bed,  after just spending the last hour or more catching up on some of the blogs I follow I have missed over the last couple of months.

Today I thought it good time to get some paints and pencils out and just do something to get back into the swing of things again. Its just a little abstract of desert colours, just more or less a fun painting . I started a graphite drawing yesterday and did some more work on that today also.  The painting was I think,  just more relaxation than anything else.  The graphite much more dramatic, with a lot more work involved.   The photo of the tree I just popped on because I love the texture of the bark and want to do a drawing of it later.   I hope to have more work done on the graphite tomorrow and weather permitting, to get a photo will pop  on.

I took umpteen photos of my dog again, and deleted them all after. Not one looking forward. In his 5 years I have never been able to get a really good photo of him. Can you believe a dog who really hides from a camera?  He’s shocking, the minute I pick it up and turn it any where near his direction, he turns the other way,  or lays down and puts his head  between his paws, always has.  Just ONE good portrait shot of him would be fantastic,  but have never been able to get it. Its that incredibly beautiful expression he gets on his face at times is what I’m trying to capture, so will have to think of some kind of devious way to get it that he won’t be aware of.  One of the guys at the park here is a photographer so shall probably call on his help.

Bought myself a couple of artline pens also today 0.4 and they’ve ordered some in 0.1 and 0.2, I haven’t done any pen and ink for a long time, sometimes combined with the graphite or charcoal can look quite stunning.

Well have just checked the post and doesn’t seem to be showing the abstract so will wait awhile and if not will re post the photo.

Well its coffee time again, and almost bed time to.

Unfinished Pastel Paintings.

Finally back to my blog and some paintings, these two have just started a few days ago and hope to finish them this weekend. They are of The Flinders Ranges areas in South Australia,  I have been doing some miniature oils of the red centre in this style and decided to do some of the Flinders after the same style and colours, abstracty. I love the colours we have through the centre and outback of Australia, so vibrant and earthy.

I got my airconditioner installed the other day, naturally the weather turned as soon as I got it and heaters came back out, but I will take the colder weather any day over the heat But wow, what a thought, to know there will be some respite for the next lot of heatwaves we have.  The weather really knocked me for awhile, (getting too old for it, haha,)  and was so good to start with the pastels again.

I’ve made an early New Years Resolution to myself, to take out an unfinished art piece each day and add a bit more to it until its completed.  Now all I have to do is stick to it,  a bit more self discipline is needed.

Have just been looking through a few blogs, and an apology to people who have left comments and not had an answer I hope I have answered all and not missed any. Thank you so much for stopping by. Also have a few more to catch up on reading.

Graphite and Oils.

We’re in a heatwave at the moment ( and its not even summer yet, winge winge, groan) and haven’t been doing much art at all the last few days.  Seems every flying bug on earth has found my place soon as I turn the lamp on and bring the oils out.  There is a small tear in the flyscreen and one on the flywire door.  The other night it was a constant fight to scoop them out of the oil paint with my pallette knife, but their wings kept getting left behind, so think the oil painting will probably have some of them in it, I hope not.  I HATE SUMMER. Feel better now.thru nightthe elusive butterfly The Oil “Through The Night”, Abstract 6×6″, and “Searching for Butterflys” is 6×4″. Hope your cool and no bugs. Time to start buying salads and cold meats again

far too hot to cook.  I pray all the firebugs have gone to Iceland, after last summers  inferno,  it kind of scares me they’ll come out of the woodwork again. My thoughts and prayers are still with those who were forced to endure that.

Popped another couple of ACEO’s  I’ve done over the last few days, these were done in oils with a palette knife. Something I am only just learning to work with.

ab vase flow Tomorrow must learn how to add a shopping cart on my site.  Don’t think there’s any great difficulty in it, hope not any ways.  Sales at ebay for some reason have just gone?  totally, with only 3 in the last 3 weeks, after sailing along nicely it came to a crunching halt the same time as my computer was hacked and crashed, the same day.   I can’t understand how over night like that something can stop so abruptly.  Its wierd.

I spent a night or two going through some of the other art blogs here on wordpress, thoroughly enjoyable, and getting to see some pretty awesome artworks also.

I’m trying to save up for some heavy duty watercolour paper, a couple of brushes,  and hope to try some watercolour paintings soon,  haven’t done any watercolour for a long time, and I certainly am no where near mastering it, but will be fun any way.

100_4414candlelit ladyHave just popped a couple more on today, one I did awhile ago, and the other one just a night ago.  Have had some on abay, but for the last 18 days haven’t been able to sell anything whatsoever.  The fees certainly mount up with no sales and having to relist all the time.  It was going really well until my computer was hacked and totally crashed and since then nothings at all!!!  Very frustrating.   I thoroughly enjoyed the ebay experience its fascinating, and heaps of talented artists on there, love looking through their works. I will be shifting quite a few from ebay on to here, plus some of the lovely feedback I have received from people on there.  And also adding a way to pay and pricing for paintings, drawings or aceo’s if  you would like to buy  anything.

The bird and nest is a miniature, measuring 6×4″, I am slowly progressing back from 2.5×3.5″  to larger sizes.

The graphite is a larger one I did some time ago.

Thank you so much for looking and have a great day or night, where ever you are in the world.

Hello and welcome to my blog. My blog is about art,  paintings, drawings,  ACEO’s which are quite addictive, they measure 2.5 by 3.5 inches, miniature artworks.  I love collecting and making them.

I have sold my art both locally and overseas, Europe, U.S.A.  England, and Korea.  These are a couple of ACEO’s,  two in oils with a palette knife, one in oil pastels, and the gumflowers in coloured pencils.

Thank you for looking, I will be adding more a little later, I hope you enjoy your visit here.
