Abstracts Graphite and Camera Shy Dogs.

Mmm I’m sitting here with a hot coffee, heater on, dog curled up at the end of the bed,  after just spending the last hour or more catching up on some of the blogs I follow I have missed over the last couple of months.

Today I thought it good time to get some paints and pencils out and just do something to get back into the swing of things again. Its just a little abstract of desert colours, just more or less a fun painting . I started a graphite drawing yesterday and did some more work on that today also.  The painting was I think,  just more relaxation than anything else.  The graphite much more dramatic, with a lot more work involved.   The photo of the tree I just popped on because I love the texture of the bark and want to do a drawing of it later.   I hope to have more work done on the graphite tomorrow and weather permitting, to get a photo will pop  on.

I took umpteen photos of my dog again, and deleted them all after. Not one looking forward. In his 5 years I have never been able to get a really good photo of him. Can you believe a dog who really hides from a camera?  He’s shocking, the minute I pick it up and turn it any where near his direction, he turns the other way,  or lays down and puts his head  between his paws, always has.  Just ONE good portrait shot of him would be fantastic,  but have never been able to get it. Its that incredibly beautiful expression he gets on his face at times is what I’m trying to capture, so will have to think of some kind of devious way to get it that he won’t be aware of.  One of the guys at the park here is a photographer so shall probably call on his help.

Bought myself a couple of artline pens also today 0.4 and they’ve ordered some in 0.1 and 0.2, I haven’t done any pen and ink for a long time, sometimes combined with the graphite or charcoal can look quite stunning.

Well have just checked the post and doesn’t seem to be showing the abstract so will wait awhile and if not will re post the photo.

Well its coffee time again, and almost bed time to.

Longjohns and Ugg Boots.

Just popped a couple of photos on of my neighbours over the back fence.  I love the middle photo myself. The last photo is the view as you leave the hardware store, really lovely. Not far from here is a really old house, abandoned, which I think would make a lovely painting.

I don’t know how the cow went from the previous post giving birth to her calf she wasn’t there next morning so can only hope all went well for her and they are both in warmer surroundings as last night and today has been really cold, with icy winds.  A sign of what winters like up here, and we still have over a month to go before it officially starts.  I huddled in a ball under the doona all night, in between getting up and throwing something else over my dog,  he’s not that intelligent at times and thinks by pushing his blankets etc around and laying on top of them he’ll be warmer. So this morning he was laying on TOP of,  a doona, a blanket, 2 coats of mine and a jumper of mine all hastily put on him each time I woke to check he was covered.   The van gets very cold, but wow the tent would have been totally freezing.  Actually today its kinda blowing in the wind, really need to take it down properly tomorrow and put it up again before it takes off, which it looks like its going to do.  I know I’m going to invest in some longjohns,  fleecy gloves and a pair of ugg boots before winter sets in properly, found a site for dog apparell today so think he’ll be getting the same kind of things.  Apparently a lot of the people living around here still have the old fireplaces for log fires in their homes and make use of them in the winter months here, what a beautiful sight they are, I don’t think too many things have a more welcoming look on a cold winters night.  When I see some of the winter temperatures in other countries I know we are still very lucky here compared to them.

Tomorrow I am hoping to do some work on a couple of paintings I really want to finish, after lugging them around in the car for awhile it will be nice to see a bit more paint on them.

Acrylic Painting Old Man Emu.

This is another one I painted awhile ago, its done in acrylics, its a copy of Ainslie Roberts work Old Man Emu. There is quite a story to the painting as there are with most of his works on aboriginal folklore. If you would like to know of the stories to his works, just google him in and will find them.  This one actually ended up as being part of a payment to a lovely computer man, who fixed my computer the last time it was hacked and crashed. While we were taking about the repairs it came up he is a follower and supporter of the arts.  I told him I love painting and all art, and it ended up saving me a lot of money in computer repairs when he said he would like some of my work..  He also gave me some really good links to different artists works on the net.  He was a really beautiful person and incredibly helpful.

I’ve been spending most of the afternoon and night cleaning cupboards and drawers out, getting rid of a lot of the junk we tend to accumulate. Am going to see about moving,  my poor dog has started to chew all his nails, some of them he is really ripping at. I know it is from what has been going on, not being able to go out and spend time or play properly in his yard without being sprayed etc.  which has made him pretty crook at times, and wow it makes you agitated also, I know from first hand experience of it.  When I moved in here I was just so happy to have a home again, I had promised him one for a long time, and he so loved his yard. Niether of us get to go out there any more.   All animals should be happy.  He’s laying on the floor next to me at the moment, watching for a mouse we have in the house.  I  put a mousetrap in the cupboard with some cheese on it before, and went to check it a little while ago, I couldn’t believe it the ants have pinched all the cheese (each summer we have a really bad ant problem), never knew ants were so partial to cheese.  Put a bigger chunk in this time, hoping they can’t carry it away.   So I think we have some very happy well stocked up ants.

No painting but talking dog.

I haven’t done any painting recently, but found a video of my dog talking, which I mentioned on a previous post the conversations we have at times. Some times these go on for quite a few minutes. I popped it on youtube, the only way can get it to come up is just by putting  paintnpencil  in the search box, on youtube and it comes up. For some reason the URL on the side of it isn’t working

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YBnKmTJbA_s this one is showing no videos found?

Well we were promised some rain here, I think we had just enough to wet the ground, make the car muddy from the dust, and thats about it.  It would be so good to have a proper soaking, and really let it go through the first few layers of earth.  But think we’ll be waiting a bit longer for that.  Still we’re pretty lucky all we have to do is turn the tap on to get our water.

ACRYLIC SWANS AND HEY, NOT MUCH LIMPING.

The top photo is of a painting, in acrylics, I did from Ainslee Roberts, his work is wonderful. He was actually invited into an aboriginal tribe for awhile and learnt a lot about their folk lore and did a lot of paintings while with them based on their storiesl

The second is my beautiful boy. He’s not limping so much this afternoon, I went to the garage about 3 this morning and got some dettol, didn’t have any in the house and wanted to bathe his paw for him. The sock bandage lasted about 10 seconds after leaving the front door,  each step taken was another shake of the leg to get it off.

Babysitting and a bit of sulking going on also me thinks. “Whats Mum bought into the house?”  After about an hour though he had adopted, and each time I lifted the puppy up he would stand and try and get it away from me to put it on the floor next to him. When I bought it home to look after it, it was crying on the back seat all the way,  he was on the front seat and quickly got on the floor and hid, stayed there til we got home.  This is the guy who adopted incubated chickens for 6 weeks, wouldn’t leave their side, and has never eaten chicken since, won’t touch it after he saw my son kill one on his farm.

He got into the chook house one day, he wanted to play with them, when I went down later to feed them I freaked, there appeared to be dead chooks every where and some missing, they were laying there with their legs in the air. I had to ring my son and tel him. I went down a few more times in the day and they were still there “dead” with their legs in the air. I felt so bad.  He had never hurt anything in his life, when my son got home we went down to see, and the bloody chooks were all under the tree together. They had been playing dead. I couldn’t believe it.

He got a big telling off, and never went in there again, but played from the outside. They didn’t mind that.

I got woken up today to his face stuck in front of mine and he’s talking away, yep, he actually talks, I’ve never known a dog who tries so hard to talk our way.  When that didn’t work to wake me properly he laid on the floor and just thumped his tail really hard and heavy, (this is a new one,)  to wake me up.  That worked.

Graphite and Pastels.

Just popped another couple drawings on, the first one is a large one done in graphite, the cigarette lady, the second is an aceo after Craig Nelson, who does some of the most amazing pastel paintings out, this is done in pastels also, the third one is after Vincent Van Gogh,  another little aceo, done in pastels.

Thank you for the well wishes that were left for me, I got over the pneumonia, but feels like am getting it back again. It was funny but about a week before I got it I was talking to someone on the phone saying I kept smelling and tasting pesticides into my home, which would have to come from the adjoining half house. Then both my dog and I started vomitting every day. In the end I couldn’t breathe anymore and called the doctor out, and they said it was “chemical pneumonia”  I looked this up and it is caused from pesticides, so don’t think I was too far wrong in what I had said on the phone before actually getting it.

I have hardly done any painting now for awhile, been so tired, but have checked most of the blogs I follow each day, as I really love looking at other peoples art, it gives me such pleasure.

Coffee Disprin and Blogging.

Have had to ad the disprin to the blogging. Haven’t done much art lately, I haven’t felt that well over the last week and half and finally had to call the doctor out the other night, something I haven’t done before. But it was getting just about impossible to breathe.  She said its pneumonia and had to go to hospital.  A lesson in life I have just learnt, when your by yourself you should always have emergency pet sitter/accomodation on hand. And also to let your pet get to know a couple of the neighbours around you, in case they have to come into your home in an emergency.  My dog has such a bark, and he’s big also, that even the poor man who delivers parcels just leaves them on top of the letter box if he’s at the door.   Funny though if I let someone in he’s the biggest sook with them, and laps all attention and is SO good. This is the same dog that adopts birds and mice when he finds them. He babysat incubated chickens for 6 weeks and wouldn’t leave the side of the box they were in.  But oh boy, if you come near my door he sounds like he wants to eat you.  And this is the problem when you don’t have pre-planned emergency accomodation for him. If someone came to the door to look after him, he’d scare them away.

Or he may be classified aggresive. This worries me.

I put an ad in the local online paper for a petsitter, but can you believe, the next morning when I would have received calls about it my phone was disconnected.  I didn’t know til later that day.  Apparently the second time in the last few days it has been disconnected. Someone else tried to ring me a few days ago and got told the phone was disconnected also.  So it certainly warns us to be more prepared.   You really expect your phone service to work when you pay for it.

It’s 4.30am, just finishing a coffee, and enjoying a bit of the cooler time of the morning, it was a stinker today and with another one forecast for tomorrow, 42, thankfully the day after will be back to civilised temperatures, and RAIN, hooray.  The backwash of Cyclone Lawrence coming over to us, with about 20 mm expected. We’re on our water rations and can only water twice a week, so any rain in between is so appreciated.  Plus a lazy way to water the lawns. Will get the dogs little swimming pool out tomorrow and put some water in it, he really loves that late afternoon,  and just lays back in it for awhile, before his mad run around the yard then.

I’ve never been through a cyclone myself, and am glad for that, they had winds up to 250 kilometres an hour, it must have been absolutely terrifying.  With quite a bit of damage done also.  But its always good when no lives are lost.  We in the South are on “catastrophic” fire alert tomorrow, so all fingers and toes will be crossed we don’t have any.  The taste of what happened in Victoria is still too fresh.

I actually got some more painting done today, was good to progress again.  Time to try and get a bit of sleep.  And today have to buy some decaffienated coffee.

ACEO’s For Sale – Miniature Artworks.

Hi, hope your day is going great and productive in whatever way you wish. I have just had my umpteenth cup of coffee, minus my biscuit, which I just put on the plate on the lounge, walked out the room to turn the light out and back again and guess who’s sitting there wagging his tail and licking his lips when I came back in.  Normally when he knows he’s done anything naughty he gives a naughty wag of the tail, just the last couple of inches of it, but this time they were chocolate chip cookies, and man did they taste good for him, not one speck of remorse was shown. The tail was going full bore, waiting for more.

The coffee’s certainly help  to get through the day.  Have some sleep deprivation going on, with only about 3-4 hours  this morning so hope to get some more later.

I have added some of the ACEO’s  I have been doing lately, I found out about these art collectors cards a few months ago. All ACEO’s measure 2.5 x 3.5 inches, miniature artworks. The popularity of these little artworks is spreading worldwide as another form of collecting original works from artists. They make wonderful gifts to put inside a card, or to ad to your own aceo collection. Some are done in acrylic, some oil, and some coloured pencil and graphite.

My photographic skills are really up the creek and can say these really do look better in person, with better colours also.

All of these are for sale, the prices range from $10-$18.00 Postage is $2.50. Nearly all art works on my site are for sale except those already in private collections. I have been trying to ad a paypal buy now button, but am having problems trying to get this done.

For any enquiries and if you would like to purchase anything please email me at thepaintedbrush@Safe-mail.net  and I will contact you straight back.

Thanks for stopping by.

Old Man Wind.

The first pastel painting of the Flinders I finished and it ended up a Xmas gift to someone, am just happy they like it,  I haven’t finished the second one yet, so time to pull the proverbial  finger out and get stuck into it. We just had another couple of incredibly hot days, yesterday the heat was fierce, but how wonderful to be able to turn an air con on and cool the room down. I couldn’t believe it, a respite from the heat. Was glorious. My dog absolutely loved it also, and spent most of the day laying on the floor lapping it up.  I owe a huge thank you to someone who helped me get the air con, wouldn’t have been able to do it without their help, as pension doesn’t afford such luxuries, hope can sell more art to pay them back.  Early last night still nearly 40 degrees, the show of heat lightning was unreal, with the huge rolls of thunder to go with it. Must have been about 1 0r 2 am when the cool change came in properly,  boy did it come in a whoosh, instantaneous. My dog was laying near the front door, scared the crap out of him and myself,  he ran into my room, I ran out of it the same time, to see what the noise was, was old man wind absolutely  howling through.  What a noise, was a squall that just ripped through suddenly.

Today is heaven, with rain and about 24 degrees.
