The One That Got Away.

I found this photo on my computer today, was pretty disappointed though, this is one I started back at the house and had to leave there. Its unfinished as you can see, but I was really liking how it was coming along. Its done in soft pastels on that paper thats like sandpaper, have to watch out for your finger tips on that one though.   I do like it and maybe when I get some more of the same paper I might do it again and get to finish it.

Gloves, yes, I have to invest in a pair, the last couple of nights its even been too cold to sit at the computer, even though the heaters only 3 feet away. Your hands just freeze up. We’ve had a cold snap, the night before last I’ve never seen so much ice on a car in Australia ever, not just a smear of it but quite thick,  I didn’t believe it could get that cold. Even with two sleeping bags on me and my coat I froze all night, and sleep just wasn’t happening very much at all. I was worried my dog would turn and toss his blankets off and lay there shivering, which he did, the silly bugger. But it was just the fact I was shivering all night myself that kept me awake. I didn’t feel sorry at all for those in Alaska that night it was too much like it.

I fell in love with the beauty of this little town when I drove through, I didn’t know at the time we were right next to the coldest place in the state.  It also didn’t help when I realised the caravan vent up the top is open and won’t close, haha, no wonder the heater was so inefficient. The above little one in blue and white is an aceo,  miniature, it was an excercise I was doing last night from a watercolour book.  Trying  dry brushing, for the shade on the snow.  The trees in the background are supposed to look like that for effects, but think my effects could look lots better. I love watercolour, find it a lot of fun, you never know what your going to get when starting off with it, well I never do, makes it kind of interesting.  I did this on the caravan floor in really low light half way under the table, wasn’t any room any where else, so didn’t know what it looked like til this morning actually, it was too “B” cold to leave the heater and sit at the table, haha.  Now know when they say “drybrushing” it must mean really dry brush, shall ask “lesliepaints.”  Wow can that lady paint.  Anyway, have decided to buy some gloves, the ones with the fingers chopped out.  Stuffed a jumper of mine around the top vent and has it made a difference already.

Wasn’t going to put any watercolours on as usually just tear them up when finished them, but kseverny asked so that ones for you.  And will put more of them on when I do them.

Graphite Rose

Brrr tonight we found out the difference between cold and freezing.  I had a lay down after tea which I don’t normally do,  but was quite cold and thought it a good way to get warm under the covers. Just when I woke up I plugged the heater in and  damn every thing went off in the van.  It was freezing so thought would stay under the doona to get a bit warmer but it just doesn’t work that way really when its that cold.  After about 5 minutes of trying to work up the courage to go down to my connection  I stupidly realised there’s only one way to get warm again and thats to brave the outside, anyone would think it was snowing and ice out there hey?  Not really, not too far off the ice though. Its forecast 4-5 tonight but feels a lot colder than that already.  I’ve now got the heater on and a cup of tea,  and its a lot warmer.

The little rose above is done in graphite,  I actually got some water colours out last night and played around with them for awhile,  just on some sketch paper,  felt great just mixing and dropping the paint in for different techniques to try. I rarely end up with anything I’d call a painting though with watercolours,  definately not my best medium to work with, but I enjoy the different effects and things you can do with it,  would be great if they ended up worth looking at though, haha.

Blown in the Wind.

I was going to make my tent into a painting room, but with the high winds we had for a couple of days, it well and truly got blown around. I thought it was going to take off at one stage but was even too windy to take it down. It just got flapped in my face every time I tried.  Its broken, when I went out to check it one of the poles that go through well and truly snapped. I thought I might try taping it together, haha, but with the pressure the poles are under naturally just went straight through the tape. Don’t want to do any painting in the van as its not mine, and don’t believe there wouldn’t be some paint end up somewhere no matter how careful I was. So will have to wait til I can get some more poles for it. We had an absolutely beautiful day weather wise today, but storms and rain forecast now for next few days, so no painting outside either.  I have a graphite I’m doing so will be a good time to get stuck into it and finish it.

I had a photo of the beautiful bottle brush thats starting to flower, but the add image icon has disappeared from my page here so will put it on another post. Its a really lovely native, painted millions of times but each painting of it is different.

Acrylic and Pastel Paintings.

The top painting I did in acrylics, “Waiting in the Storm”, and the other is in soft pastels “After the Storm”.  I had a lot of trouble trying to get the right light and colours to show up properly in the photo in the pastel one, its ok but still hasn’t showed the colours up properly.

These were both done awhile ago, and the acrylic one sold very quickly so was lucky, helped to buy more supplies.

Acrylic, Kermit the Hermit.

This is just a small acrylic one I had some fun with a couple of months ago. I loved the expression on his face and his “kinda” hammock.

Have popped this on mainly to welcome blissbait back, and to say thank you for a couple of awards I was given to me, which I have to pick up from you.

I haven’t been blogging or painting much at all. Been having some problems here with a couple of people living very close by.  I have actually taken to sleeping outside as its been a lot healthier than being inside.  How ridiculous hey. I sat out the back with my dog the other night and wasn’t long after going out there saw a squirt of fluid go across the back yard, within about 10 minutes we had to move from there, my dog was sneezing and choking, I saw another one go straight past there also before moving, towards the neighbours air vents in his walls. It appears they have a high pressure squirt gun. You can smell the pesticides in it.

I haven’t been able to catch up with him to let him know. He’s at work all day and normally if you don’t catch him coming in the driveway, can’t get an answer to the door at night. Has a hearing problem I believe. These demented little imbeciles also have lasers and a projectorless taser they have been shooting around.  I have been hit in the eye and head a few times and so has my dog. I have contacted the local member of parliament.  Its illegal in Australia to own these.  So they make their own of the web. Thats a laser on my dog, they keep getting him in the eyes, he hardly goes out the back any more he even started to hide behind the bin out there.  Now when he goes out he comes in sneezing and choking, they’ve obviously got him in the face with the squirt gun.

Anyway enough of that just thought would explain why I haven’t been on or picked the awards up. Thank you.

ACRYLIC SWANS AND HEY, NOT MUCH LIMPING.

The top photo is of a painting, in acrylics, I did from Ainslee Roberts, his work is wonderful. He was actually invited into an aboriginal tribe for awhile and learnt a lot about their folk lore and did a lot of paintings while with them based on their storiesl

The second is my beautiful boy. He’s not limping so much this afternoon, I went to the garage about 3 this morning and got some dettol, didn’t have any in the house and wanted to bathe his paw for him. The sock bandage lasted about 10 seconds after leaving the front door,  each step taken was another shake of the leg to get it off.

Babysitting and a bit of sulking going on also me thinks. “Whats Mum bought into the house?”  After about an hour though he had adopted, and each time I lifted the puppy up he would stand and try and get it away from me to put it on the floor next to him. When I bought it home to look after it, it was crying on the back seat all the way,  he was on the front seat and quickly got on the floor and hid, stayed there til we got home.  This is the guy who adopted incubated chickens for 6 weeks, wouldn’t leave their side, and has never eaten chicken since, won’t touch it after he saw my son kill one on his farm.

He got into the chook house one day, he wanted to play with them, when I went down later to feed them I freaked, there appeared to be dead chooks every where and some missing, they were laying there with their legs in the air. I had to ring my son and tel him. I went down a few more times in the day and they were still there “dead” with their legs in the air. I felt so bad.  He had never hurt anything in his life, when my son got home we went down to see, and the bloody chooks were all under the tree together. They had been playing dead. I couldn’t believe it.

He got a big telling off, and never went in there again, but played from the outside. They didn’t mind that.

I got woken up today to his face stuck in front of mine and he’s talking away, yep, he actually talks, I’ve never known a dog who tries so hard to talk our way.  When that didn’t work to wake me properly he laid on the floor and just thumped his tail really hard and heavy, (this is a new one,)  to wake me up.  That worked.

PASTEL. THE OLD SHACK.

This is done in soft pastel on pastel paper. The old shack still standing.  Somewhere in The Flinders Ranges, abandoned for a long time. I have always sprayed my pastels with fixative, but after watching a video the other day, and totally agreeing on the fact that fixative does dull the colours I think I will leave them from now on and just wrap them in tissue paper when finished.  You tend to lose too much of the vibrant colours associated with pastels.

I’ve just finished putting a bandage and a sock on my dogs paw, the poor bugger has been limping this afternoon, and after making him lay and roll so I could look, he’s taken skin off the underside of his paw.  He’s such the macho man and never complains about anything, so know its really bothering him.  He really is quite simply beautiful. In the morning I can get something proper to bathe it with, and a proper bandage also. Hopefully this makes it a little more comfortable for him to walk on.

Graphite and Pastels.

Just popped another couple drawings on, the first one is a large one done in graphite, the cigarette lady, the second is an aceo after Craig Nelson, who does some of the most amazing pastel paintings out, this is done in pastels also, the third one is after Vincent Van Gogh,  another little aceo, done in pastels.

Thank you for the well wishes that were left for me, I got over the pneumonia, but feels like am getting it back again. It was funny but about a week before I got it I was talking to someone on the phone saying I kept smelling and tasting pesticides into my home, which would have to come from the adjoining half house. Then both my dog and I started vomitting every day. In the end I couldn’t breathe anymore and called the doctor out, and they said it was “chemical pneumonia”  I looked this up and it is caused from pesticides, so don’t think I was too far wrong in what I had said on the phone before actually getting it.

I have hardly done any painting now for awhile, been so tired, but have checked most of the blogs I follow each day, as I really love looking at other peoples art, it gives me such pleasure.

Coffee Disprin and Blogging.

Have had to ad the disprin to the blogging. Haven’t done much art lately, I haven’t felt that well over the last week and half and finally had to call the doctor out the other night, something I haven’t done before. But it was getting just about impossible to breathe.  She said its pneumonia and had to go to hospital.  A lesson in life I have just learnt, when your by yourself you should always have emergency pet sitter/accomodation on hand. And also to let your pet get to know a couple of the neighbours around you, in case they have to come into your home in an emergency.  My dog has such a bark, and he’s big also, that even the poor man who delivers parcels just leaves them on top of the letter box if he’s at the door.   Funny though if I let someone in he’s the biggest sook with them, and laps all attention and is SO good. This is the same dog that adopts birds and mice when he finds them. He babysat incubated chickens for 6 weeks and wouldn’t leave the side of the box they were in.  But oh boy, if you come near my door he sounds like he wants to eat you.  And this is the problem when you don’t have pre-planned emergency accomodation for him. If someone came to the door to look after him, he’d scare them away.

Or he may be classified aggresive. This worries me.

I put an ad in the local online paper for a petsitter, but can you believe, the next morning when I would have received calls about it my phone was disconnected.  I didn’t know til later that day.  Apparently the second time in the last few days it has been disconnected. Someone else tried to ring me a few days ago and got told the phone was disconnected also.  So it certainly warns us to be more prepared.   You really expect your phone service to work when you pay for it.
